The broader market outperformed the benchmark indices as focus shifted to value buying in mid-cap and small-cap shares after the sharp gains on Friday. The Sensex was down 31 points at 17,399 and the Nifty closed flat at 5,278.
Markets have slipped into the red after opening on the positive zone. The Sensex is down 35 points at 17,394. Nifty is down 10 points at 5,269.

Auto shares gain while banks, realty drop
The overall market breadth in BSE remained positive with 1,545 stocks advancing and 1,221 stocks declining.
The overall market breadth was negative as 1,773 stocks declined against 1,048 advancing ones, on the BSE.
Nifty crossed the 5,600 mark and finally ended at 5,564 -- up 42 points.
The overall market breadth was marginally positive as 1,422 stocks advanced while 1,310 stocks declined.
